What to get that Man Geek in your life?

Any chance you’re searching and searching for that perfect gift? Do you have a man geek in your life that you want to award with a great gift for Christmas or Hanukkah? I have a few ideas for you…

Nerf N-Strike Maverick Dart Gun Blaster…$28

Every Man Geek needs a toy gun. These guns rock! Some friends of mine and I each got one last summer and had a bit of fun with them. They shoot well, and are actually powerful enough that you should duck. There’s also a bit of customizing being done. Google it.

Nerf N-Strike Vulcan EBF-25 Blaster…$84

This is a decent upgrade on power and size, from the Maverick above. This one is belt fed and is a bit faster than the Maverick. Also a must for the Man Geek.

Simmons Redline 10×50 Binoculars…$20

The standard Man Geek is also an outdoorsman. Whether he hunts or just camps, a nice pair of binoculars are a must. These Simmons binos are a good start, for the Man Geek without any to speak of.

Butt-Out Tool…$8

The hunting Man Geek will know what this is, and why it is needed. A nice, cheap stocking stuffer.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (video game)…$50-60 (depends on platform)

The genuine Man Geek challenges his children to battles of skill and dexterity. Since most Man Geeks were masters of their own NES’s as children, armed digital combat is a must. This Star Wars game bridges the gap well, for Man Geeks and their children.

LaCie Hard Disk (External Hard Drive) 500 GB FireWire 400/USB 2.0/eSATA…$100

Of course Man Geeks are massive consumers of digital media. Whether it’s sweet photos from his dSLR, his huge iTunes library, or a few torrented HD Divx flicks, he needs space to store all that crap. Today’s low priced external hard drives

Flip Video Mino Series HD Camcorder…$230

These little HD video cameras sound like they rock! With everyone recording small clips of video, for use in blogging, YouTube, and the like, a camera like this would suit any Man Geek well. Plus, the price is right!

Inspiron Mini 9…$350

The world of ‘netbooks’ took off this year. A ton of folks are grabbing up these sweet little laptops. They’re light-weight. They’re cheap. They run for hours. You should get one for your Man Geek!

ASUS Eee PC 900HA 8.9-Inch Netbook…$367

The netbooks made by Asus are what kicked off the netbook fad. This one is really the leader of the pack.

Is this a wild and odd list? Yes! But, hopefully you’ll get some ideas from it. Anything you want me to add? THEN COMMENT!

  1. Right you are, JeffinLA! I’m game for learning more, thanks.

However, I have seen it pointed out that the decreased need for cooling can contribute to lower power consumption, and of course, much lower noise coming from the computer’s guts.

Oh yeah, and the Dell comes with Ubuntu. I’ll never own another Windows machine, and Linux rocks the non-Mac world like no other. Additionally, the Asus comes with a modified Linux distro, specially made for them. Either way, I get a sweet netbook, without the heartache and hassle of Win-crap.

  2. Well, Mark, I’d agree, except that it has a spinning hard drive, not a flash based SSD. That makes it hotter, suck more juice, and more fragile.

Thanks Julie, you’re SO right! All those little items make for good stocking stuffers.

  3. You know, women want some of that stuff, too! 😉

And don’t forget the stocking stuffers – memory cards, extra Nerf ammo, that sort of thing.

  4. Um… You missed mentioning probably the BEST netbook on the market; the HP Mini 1000! Yeah, even better than the Dell!

  5. Hey Trevor!

Nice list! However the Flip Video camcorder you mention and link to (which is a great idea) is NOT the HD version, you’re link is to the regular Mino version.

The MinoHD version is $230.00 and only available on Amazon in black (though available elsewhere, like my shop, in variety of colors/designs).
